Presentation at the Portuguese Environment Agency || “On Wednesdays, at 5 pm”

13/11/2013

On November 13, lawyer João Quintela Cavaleiro co-authored the book Climate Chance in a session to be held at the Portuguese Environment Agency as part of the project “At Wednesdays, at 17.00, at APA”.

The book Climate Chance, a legal-economic reflection of the carbon market in combating climate change, arises from the anxiety generated by climate change.

The work seeks to break the dogma of the lack of competitiveness of the green economy, relegated to the background by the financial crisis. Priority is given to the analysis of the different environmental control strategies to combat the effects of Greenhouse Gases, focusing on market mechanisms, essentially on the carbon market. “Control instruments”, to have an effect on climate change, must be based on a vision of the environment as an economic resource. Not being the only solution, it is a cost effective option that, in certain cases, presents considerable advantages in relation to the introduction of taxes. In the words of Carlos Pimenta, author of the preface, Climate Chance “manages to combine the rigor of a legal text with the fluency and ease of reading of those who write for the“ general public ”(…) [and] proposes to us challenges and presents solutions, the responsibility of each reader to respond. ”
