The Forum was attended by the Portuguese Minister of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Assunção Cristas and with the Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Msgr. Abdelouahad Nouri, 4 protocols for the development of economic relations between the two countries were signed.

The Forum took place simultaneously with the 5 + 5 Conference, which brought together the group of 5 European and 5 North African countries most relevant in the agrifood sector.

Algeria is currently the 22 country in the context of Portuguese exports with growth potential, in which more than 60% of the population is under 30 years old, with very large domestic demand needs.

João Quintela Cavaleiro, lawyer, who was present at the Forum says that the result of the conferences “was great and that there are very important opportunities for Portuguese agro-industrialists to develop quality products, as well as many in other sectors.

Complex negotiations, with different jurisdictions, where knowledge and trust between the parties is essential, but in a market that has the advantage of being less than two hours away”, he added.

In the agri-food sector, a selection is already underway to bring together the best Portuguese producers in each food sector that have the capacity to export Portuguese products such as fruit, honey, olive oil, tomatoes, peppers, different agricultural crops, with the premise of being in the the front line of best food security practices.

Also in other sectors, “such as food security, energy, machinery, infrastructure, specialized services, the potential is enormous”, says João Quintela Cavaleiro.
